What Is Daxxify? Everything You Need to Know About the Longer-Lasting Neuromodulator

If you've been keeping up with the world of injectables, you've likely heard the buzz about Daxxify. At Rejuvalase Medical Spa in Santa Barbara, we're always staying ahead of the curve when it comes to the latest advances in aesthetic medicine, and Daxxify is one of the most exciting developments in neuromodulators in years. Here's everything you need to know.
What Is Daxxify?
Daxxify is an FDA-approved wrinkle-relaxing injectable designed to smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, also called glabellar lines, using a peptide-stabilized botulinum toxin type A. It's made by Revance Therapeutics and received its first FDA approval on September 7, 2022.
Like Botox, Dysport, and other neuromodulators, Daxxify works by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for expression lines. But what sets it apart is how it's formulated, and how long it lasts.
How Is Daxxify Different from Botox?
The biggest differentiator is Daxxify's proprietary formulation. It is the first neuromodulator stabilized with Peptide Exchange Technology and is free of both animal-based components and human serum albumin.
The formula uses a specialized peptide (RTP004) to help the active ingredient bind more effectively to nerve endings and remain active longer. This peptide-enhanced technology is a key factor in why many patients experience longer-lasting results than with other neuromodulators.
For patients who prefer to avoid animal-derived ingredients, Daxxify is also the only wrinkle-relaxing neuromodulator on the market that contains zero human or animal byproducts — a notable perk for vegans or anyone looking to avoid those ingredients.
How Long Does Daxxify Last?
This is where Daxxify really shines. Traditional neuromodulators like Botox typically last three to four months. Daxxify has a median duration of action of six to nine months, something virtually unseen with other neuromodulators.
In the SAKURA Phase 3 clinical trials, 74% of subjects achieved a two-grade or greater improvement in glabellar lines at week four per both investigator and patient assessment, and 98% of subjects achieved none or mild wrinkle severity at week four per investigator assessment.
What does this mean practically? Daxxify is the first neuromodulator that can give patients lovely results when done twice a year, maintaining a consistent and compelling result day in, day out, month after month.

When Will I See Results?
One of Daxxify's other advantages is its fast onset. Results can be seen as early as one day after treatment, and are typically visible within two days. Most patients see their full results within 10 to 14 days.
What Areas Can Daxxify Treat?
Daxxify is FDA-approved for glabellar (frown) lines, and experienced injectors may also use it in areas like the forehead and crow's feet when appropriate. During your consultation at Rejuvalase, our team will evaluate your facial anatomy and recommend the most effective treatment plan for your goals.
Is Daxxify Safe?
Daxxify is generally safe and well tolerated, with no serious treatment-related adverse events reported in the clinical trials, and a safety profile consistent with other currently available neuromodulators. The most commonly reported side effects are headache, eyelid ptosis (drooping), and facial paresis, all mild and temporary.
What Is Recovery Like?
There is little to no downtime with Daxxify. Most patients can return to routine daily activities right away. We may recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, lying flat, or massaging the treated area for several hours after injections, and planning your appointment at least a few days before major events in case of mild bruising or swelling.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Daxxify?
Healthy adults who want to soften expression lines, especially frown lines, and who would like longer-lasting results with minimal downtime are typically good candidates. It's also an excellent choice for busy patients who prefer fewer appointments throughout the year.
