Why are Dermal Fillers and Injectables so popular?
Dermal fillers are popular because they are safe for almost anyone to use. They provide a quick and effective aesthetic solution that is inexpensive, minimally invasive, and yields immediate results with the added benefit that many treatments provide continued improvement over time. Dermal fillers typically take under an hour to administer and require no recovery period. Some patients may require follow-up treatments, and some treatments produce gradual, ongoing results, but in most cases, you will see an immediate improvement to your appearance after a single treatment.
Who can benefit from Injectable Dermal Filler treatments?
Almost any healthy adult in good overall health may be an ideal candidate for an injectable dermal filler treatment, but they are especially recommended to treat those with the following conditions:
- Acne scars
- Wrinkles, creases, folds, or lines on the face
- Sagging skin in the mid-face region and sunken cheeks
- Crow’s feet, laugh lines, smile or frown lines at the corners of the eyes
- Deep vertical creases extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth
- Thin, brittle, flat, or undefined lips
- Vertical lines surrounding the lip line sometimes called “smokers’ lines”
- Volume replacement in the cheeks, eyebrows, face, and nose

How are Dermal Fillers administered?
Dermal fillers are administered as injections using a very fine-gauge needle. We may first numb the area with a topical anesthetic to prevent any potential discomfort during treatment. To treat fine lines and wrinkles, the filler is delivered to the outermost layers of skin, while treating the innermost layers of skin effectively reduces the appearance of deeper folds and creases. Some patients report a stinging sensation during the procedure, and some have reported minor discomfort following the treatment, but dermal fillers require no recovery period, and patients may resume regular activities immediately after treatment.
Do I have to prepare in advance for a Dermal Filler Treatment?
There is little to no preparation required before your dermal filler injections, however, you must inform Dr. Keller of any medications you may be taking, including aspirin or NSAIDs, as you may need to postpone taking certain medications in preparation for dermal injections. If you have any type of skin condition or irritation such as cold sores, cysts, pimples, rashes, hives, or an infection, treatment may have to be postponed until the condition has subsided.
Is there any downtime after Dermal Fillers?
There is no required recovery period following dermal filler treatments, and most patients are able to return to work and resume regular activities immediately upon leaving our office.
